EU CAP Network Workshop: Learning from evaluations on how to practically assess generational renewal under the CAP

14 March - 15 February 2024
Zagreb, Croatia

About a third of managers of family farms in the EU were aged 65 years or more in 2020, while only 6.5 % were under 35 years old, according to the latest statistics. Such a high proportion of farmers close to retirement raises questions about EU farm succession, obstacles for new entrants,  land abandonment, decreasing farm efficiency and attractiveness of the sector for young people. Generational renewal is one of the key evaluation elements to assess in the context of CAP Strategic Plans evaluations under the CAP 2023-2027. In the current programming period, supporting and attracting young farmers constitutes a specific objective to respond to societal demands.

To reflect and learn from Member States' experiences, the EU CAP Network, supported by the European Evaluation Helpdesk for the CAP, is organising a Good Practice Workshop in Zagreb, on 14-15 March 2024, on ‘Assessing generational renewal in CAP Strategic Plans’, including the gender equality perspective.
